In celebration of Google updating the satellite image of the world's best biodiesel plant, I thought I would share just how much has changed along this humble stretch of the Chehalis River:
Before |
After |
The fact that we sit on many, many feet of old dredge spoils and river silt means that civil engineering considerations are a much greater part of my job than I would ever wish upon my enemies. I could have died happy without knowing the difference between augur cast and screw piles and how stressful it gets installing either...
The new view shows a few large, shiny upgrades over the last couple years and hidden in the shadows are the little projects that fill my days. Sadly I can't share the juicy process upgrades but its probably for the best, I need to hang onto my faithful audience of three (Hi Mom!). I can share that I bought a batch of fancy stairs for crossing over pipelines and wardrobe malfunctions are way down!
When I was young and even more clueless, I thought working in a plant of any sort would be similar to a stint in a Soviet work camp. Three years into this experiment and clearly I didn't know what I was talking about. Probably helps a little bit that this plant is sitting right in the middle of so many potential adventures... So I'll keep showing up until they realize I don't really know anything.
