Battle Chess & Other Vignettes

Battle Chess - It is time to update the blog's theme to: Chronicles of an urban redneck nerd and take a look at the best computer game to come out of the 80's. In sorting through my grandpa's office, we came across the floppy disc containing Battle Chess. It was an instant flashback to the joys of sending your rook to eat your brother's queen or watching a pawn take a cheap shot below the belt on an unsuspecting knight. Grandpa probably inherited it by default as the last holdout with a computer that could run a 5" floppy but I think the dismemberment homage to the black knight of Monty Python fame went over his head. Fortunately for me, the internet also has a soft spot for Dos games and I could download an emulator and the original game (all of 740 KB). As a bonus, I can also spend my rehab time playing Oregon Trail Deluxe ('92) and wreaking havoc on the prairie squirrel population.

Urban Dictionary on Urban Outcasts - I'm too old to understand exactly what they are trying to say but it doesn't sound good:

Catch & Release - Had my first run in with the Washington State Patrol on the way back from South Dakota last fall. It only makes blog worthy material because this is the first time I have been pulled over by a man and my ticketless streak of 31 years continues. As any reasonable person would, I have concluded that aging has gifted me with cross-gender appeal!

Two Bugs -  The first is a praying mantis from California who is hopefully still out there judo chopping bugs and the second is a Smith Tower cockroach who was brazenly checking out his reflection instead of scurrying for cover...

Yup, I need to get out more... Only three more weeks to go!
