Shed Hunter

The hound and I are a little more round of late so it was time to wander in the woods looking for dog treats, as one does. Our mission was to scout out some mountain valleys in anticipation of next fall's deer season and hopefully stumble upon a discarded antler or two. Unfortunately, Google lost its mind and could only manage to direct us to driveways or gated roads. I had even brought along a professional navigator but we were all stumped.
We barely made it out of the burbs but picked a promising gate and started walking through state timber lands. No sign of deer and Oak went home empty handed but that was more a function of my lack of endurance than his sniffing abilities. The biggest surprise was running into a very helpful Fish & Wildlife officer who gave us some good hiking tips and pointed out which private timber gates were ok to ignore. That is public service!

From the Archives: The target on this hike was grouse but Oak knows what he likes.
