Chihuly Stalking

Urban Outcast Music #22- Emmylou by First Aid Kit
If you are like me and feeling a little depressed that the Olympics are already over, here is a post with only the most feeble connection to outdoor adventures just to show off some bright colors...
If you can manage to turn your kayak away from the views of downtown Seattle and the delicate dance of sailboat vs float plane, you will notice a relatively mundane building just underneath the interstate. Chihuly's boathouse used to combine his studio and residence but now functions as a showcase of his art for high rollers attending select charity events. Reported highlights include an 85' long Douglas fir table made from a single slab of tree, an aquarium of tropic fish and glass sculptures, and an even bigger aquarium for people with what is essentially an inverted version of Chihuly's Persian ceilings.
For the masses, there is the Chihuly Garden and Glass museum. The exhibits are stunning and so dramatically staged that every smartphone carrier leaves feeling like they have mastered the art of photography.
Once we advanced to the gardens all of my puffed up sense of accomplishment quickly evaporated. The glass nestled amid the moss, rock, and gnarled wood was awesome and got me to wondering about their bird scaring potential for my garden but don't judge their quality by my photos...

Hope that helps with the Winter Olympic blues! Tragically I have lost my curling photos but they will be found someday and then we will all be able to marvel at my sweeping technique.
