Cedar Butte

Cedar Butte (or Ceder Butt in the parlance of 1937) is not a hike for those looking to soak in the typically stunning I-90 mountain views while soaking through your shirt. Instead you feel like a pro as you drive a quarter mile past the hundreds of cars stacked up for the Rattlesnake Ledge hike and get to look forward to a moderate four mile walk with the summit all to yourself.
The first mileish is an old railroad grade which makes a good stretch for the less stable hikers that are about knee high. No critters or drama to be found but the little man gorged himself on red huckleberries and salmon berries. I think he even figured out what the leaves looked like because he was on us for more even when there was no fruit present. Or maybe he was just asking for more the entire walk, it can all blur together...
Rattlesnake ledge is shown below, a little too far away to pick out the swarms of folks. If you have time midweek or offseason, its a nice warm-up for the hikes deeper into the mountains. And that's really the whole post, you all have endured enough blathering lately and deserve a rest. I'll be back soonish with a Grays Harbor hike.
