January 7, 2022, 4 miles & 1160' gain: Not sure where the late fall went but I didn't get out for a recreational hike to close out the year. So the hound and I tried to get back on track in the new year. We picked Rattlesnake Ledge because we had just had some good snows and although you can't tell in the shot above, the higher hikes weren't accessible. Even staying low, people were getting stuck in the parking lot on what was in truth a pretty miserable day. Between the high winds and the rain, I probably should have stayed home but with the alternative being work, I'd rather do my suffering outside.
This was one of our first Seattle hikes probably 8 years ago and its a zoo in the summer. It was closed for a good chunk of the pandemic to get it back up to snuff for the crowds. I had my saw, hoping for some recent wind/snow falls but only managed four meagre trees. The first outpost on the ledges themselves briefly opened up for some views but the upper ones were socked in so we headed back down.
Zoo Lights: I so rarely get night pictures that are worth sharing but here are a couple from December.
