A Tale of Two Elevations

Urban Outcast Music #59 - Hope the High Road by Jason Isbell. Mr Isbell is coming to play at our zoo in July, can't wait to finally see him live.
April 6-8, 2023: The wife had a conference at the Rocky Mountain YMCA, outside of Estes Park CO, so we all tagged along to play in the snow and revisit some of my teenage haunts (although to be honest, I was too big of a wimp back then to head deeper into the mountains in the winter). The YMCA has a stunning location and I would highly recommend it as a low key home base for Rocky Mountain National Park adventures.
Most of the national park was still closed but the boys and I took Trail Ridge Rd until the gate to see the elk and deer hanging out close to town and the views from up high.
The other outing we did while the wife was dutifully conferencing was a short hiking loop from the accurately named Lumpy Ridge trailhead. The rock formations were a big hit with the kiddos while the iced over trail had me rehearsing my call to the wife from an urgent care facility...

April 8-12, 2023: With work completed, we dropped down 3,000' for some easter egg hunts with family and friends along the Front Range. Along the way we got to chill in Golden along Clear Creek (twice) and explore Garden of the Gods. In classic Colorado style the weather got confused, jumping straight to the high 80s and it had me ready to return to the soothing Seattle marine layer.
