Woody's First Shroom Hunt

July 3rd, 2023 - Our new, hard charging hunting hound's first foraging outing was on Tiger Mountain to find some mushrooms. Woody was not impressed with the pace of searching for summer chanterelles and lobsters, especially because we didn't find any... He also showed little interest in marveling at how vastly his surroundings had changed from cornfields and prairies to mountainous forests.
While the choice edibles were not cooperating, this was probably the second best trip in terms of variety observed. Maybe with a little more knowledge there were even a few tasty morsels that I couldn't recognize. No story with this post, just a whole bunch of mushrooms, some slime mold, and a parasitic plant that also likes to eat fungi. As of this writing, we are probably only a couple weeks from the return of the rains and the explosion of mushrooms that will bring. When our glorious summer is finally washed away, I'm hoping to try my first chanterelles, boletes, and matsutakes all without any adverse impacts to my kidneys.
